How often
should I wash my car?
It is
recommended to wash your vehicle once a week to minimize
constant damaging contaminants such as fallout such as
acid rain, bird and insect droppings, tree sap etc.
which damage your paint.
I wash my
car regularly but the paint does not feel smooth.
Washing
your regularly will only remove the soil you can see.
The rough film you can feel on the paint is a
combination of oxidization and damaging contaminants
bonding to your paint.
What is
oxidization?
Oxidization
is when the UV rays of the sun deteriorate unprotected
pain causing it to fade, becoming thin and chalky
looking over time.
How do I
protect my car from damaging contaminants and
oxidization?
You would have to leave your car under a cover and
locked away in a garage to protect your car from
damaging contaminants and oxidization. Alternatively,
prevention with a regular maintenance program of
washing, polishing and protecting the paint with a
barrier coat of either a wax or polymer sealant is the
only solution.
What is the difference between a polish and a wax or
polymer sealant?
Polish will remove light oxidization and very fine
scratches while enhancing the gloss of the paint but not
leaving any protection. In order to protect the shine
and finish of the paint, a polish should always be
followed with either a wax, which is a natural product
called Carnuba Wax, or a polymer sealant, which is a man
made product usually produced from a Teflon or silicon
base.
How often should I wax my car?
You should apply a wax or polymer sealant every 2-4
months, depending on the circumstances; this will
maintain the barrier coat to repel contaminants and
oxidization.
I bought a new car and the dealer sold me a Lifetime
Paint Protection.
New car paint is virtually flawless with a brilliant
shine; however it does not come with paint protection
from the manufacturer, leaving your vehicle exposed to
damaging contaminants and oxidization. It is important
to note that all types of paint protection will
eventually wear down and have to be reapplied to
maintain the protective coat. Therefore, it is
recommended that you read the details of your warranty
agreement, which often excludes protection against
oxidization.
My car has faded (oxidized) paint. Is it too late to
protect it?
It is never too late. There is a three-step process that
is used to bring your paint back to its luster and
shine. First, the top layer of oxidized paint is removed
with a cutting compound. Second, a polishing compound is
used on the vehicle to bring out the color and shine of
the paint. Finally, a coat of wax or polymer sealant is
applied to protect the paint and make your car look like
new again.
